There is no direct way to hack WhatsApp. That is, you cannot say that I want to hack such and such person’s WhatsApp and it should happen immediately. But, this is possible through remote code execution, social engineers attacks, media file jacking, third party apps, chat exporting and WhatsApp web and has happened before.
