Sharing photos of bare breasts will not be a crime, Facebook and Instagram will change the rules, women themselves protested

New Delhi. Meta may soon change the rules for posting photos on its Facebook and Instagram. After the change in the rules, women doing breast feeding will be able to post news breast pictures on Facebook and Instagram. In fact, Meta’s Oversight Board, while changing its strict rules, has decided that now women will be able to post nude photos of their breasts on the platform. Earlier, Meta Facebook and Instagram were not allowed to post pictures of women doing breast feeding and on doing so the company used to ban breast feeding pictures.

The Oversight Board, a group of academics, politicians and journalists, has advised the company on its content-moderation policies. The group recommended that Meta change its adult nudity and sexual activity community standards to make it clear that the company respects international human rights.

The oversight board’s decision comes after Facebook censored two posts from an account run by an American couple who is transgender and non-binary. The post shows the couple posing topless, but with their nipples covered. Trans Healthcare was described with the caption of this photo and it raised money for the surgery.

During this the post was also flagged by the users. It was reviewed and then removed by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) system. However, after the couple appealed the appeal, Meta restored the post again. The Board found that the policy is based on a distinction between men and women.
