The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has implemented the new rule from January 1. Because of this companies believe that the prices of fridge will increase. Manufacturers such as Godrej Appliances, Haier and Panasonic say that the new energy efficiency norms will increase the manufacturing cost of fridges by 2-5%, which will be passed on to customers.

Under the new rules, apart from tightening the labeling process, separate ‘star labeling’ has been made mandatory for freezer and refrigerator provisioning units (storage parts) in ‘Frost Free Models’.

What is Star Rating?
Explain that BEE gives star rating to all devices, appliances on the basis of power consumption efficiency. These star ratings range from 1 to 5. The higher the rating of an appliance, the more efficient it is in terms of power consumption.

Kamal Nandi, business head and executive vice-president, Godrej Appliances, said, “Now we have to declare labeling for both under the star rating. This is a new change. Customers will be able to take the right decision
Apart from this, another change in the recent star labeling is to declare the net capacity of the refrigerating unit instead of the gross capacity. Net capacity refers to the usable capacity while gross capacity refers to the amount of liquid that can be filled in the refrigerator. This will help the customer to make the right decision while buying a refrigerator as they will know exactly how much storage space they will get.
