REVIEW: ‘Moving In With Malaika’ Is A Poor Attempt To Make Something Like ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’

In 2007, a reality show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” started on the E-entertainment cable network, in which the personal lives of the Kardashian sisters, who became stars from social media, were shown. So far it has 20 seasons and about 250. This show, made on a very strange concept, gets abused a lot, but like Bigg Boss, there are many who watch it. Many good programs have been made on the personal life of celebrities and have also been successful because we like the devilish pleasure of peeping into their personal lives. Earlier there used to be a program “Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai”, then Anupam Kher’s program used to come, then Har Ghar Kuch Kahta Hai with Vinay Pathak. Koffee with Karan was also one such show where we got to peep a little bit into the personal lives of celebrities. In this episode, a new show has now come on Disney + Hotstar, which is taking entry with the first season of about 16 episodes – Moving in with Malaika. Its 5 episodes have been shown so far.

We all know Malaika Arora. 24-25 years back she had performed a very heady dance on a moving train in Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Dil Se’ with Shahrukh Khan – ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’. After this she started appearing in fashion shows, in small roles, in item numbers and as Arbaaz Khan’s wife. Due to getting married at a young age, as maturity comes in you, you start feeling tied to the circumstances. This happened with Malaika and then she and Arbaaz decided to separate. During this, his closeness increased with actor Arjun Kapoor, son of film producer Boney Kapoor. Although both have not married yet, but after secretly dating each other for a long time, they have put their relationship in front of the public.

Now there are few incidents in Malaika’s personal life, about which one may be interested to know. One is her struggle, second is marriage-child-divorce with Arbaaz, love with Arjun and the recent accident in which she narrowly escaped death. Apart from this, paparazzi keep following her throughout the day and keep capturing almost her entire routine and throwing it on social media. Mostly there are videos of her coming out of the gym, or there are pictures of her having dinner with Arjun Kapoor and then she is seen roaming abroad with her friends in skimpy clothes. After Urfi Javed, Taimur Ali Khan, if anyone’s life has been poured on social media then it is Malaika Arora.

Don’t know at what time Malaika Arora said yes to ‘Moving in with Malaika’. The show is utter nonsense, trash and there is no story because of very poor level of research. Hussain Dalal and Abbas Dalal have written this show together and it doesn’t seem like they have made any effort to understand Malaika. Surface script. Malaika’s acting is also not such that she can be praised. Nothing seems more fake than his conversation with old friend Farah Khan in the very first episode. On the other hand, her conversation with Malaika’s friend Neha Dhupia does not seem like a conversation between two friends from any angle. Everything in this series is either dramatic or a complete flop.

The conversation with Malaika’s colleagues also seems strange. Be it Farah Khan or Arjun Kapoor. Even the video message of Malaika’s son Arhaan seems very fake and scripted. In a good reality show everyone knows that the show is scripted but still it should not be visible. Only he knows why Malaika had to choose such a show for herself, but director Huzaima’s directorial effort seemed rubbish. Not even a single episode is successful in getting tied because the focus is not on the story or incident but on Malaika. DOP Srinivas Ramaiah has filmed all the elements of the reality show in which the focus has to be on dialogue in a very bizarre way. Breaking the fourth wall i.e. when the artist directly addresses the audience, looks so bad that it would have been better if it had not happened.

Overall this will probably be the first and last season of Moving In With Malaika. Looking at the kind of content that has been kept in it, it seems that not only the audience but also the artistes would have been bored with the entire 16 episodes. This show is an utter waste of time. Ignore it completely.
