New Delhi. There is relief news on the unemployment rate front. In fact, the unemployment rate for persons aged 15 years and above in urban areas came down to 7.2 per cent on an annual basis in July-September, 2022. This information has been received from the data released on Thursday by the National Statistical Office (NSO). The unemployment rate was 9.8 percent in the same period a year ago.
Unemployment rate was high in July-September, 2021
According to PTI, the unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of unemployed persons among the labor force. The unemployment rate was high in the country in July-September, 2021 due to the impact of restrictions related to the Kovid-19 pandemic.
Economy is moving towards continuous recovery
In this way, the latest data based on the Labor Force survey underlining the decline in the unemployment rate indicates that the economy is steadily moving towards recovery after coming out of the impact of the pandemic.
The unemployment rate for people over the age of 15 in urban areas stood at 7.6%
According to the 16th Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS), the unemployment rate for people aged 15 years and above in urban areas stood at 7.6 per cent in April-June 2022. The survey found that the unemployment rate among women (aged 15 years and above) in urban areas declined to 9.4 per cent in July-September, 2022. It was 11.6 percent in the same period a year ago. This figure was 9.5 percent during April-June 2022.
Male unemployment rate declines in urban areas
At the same time, the unemployment rate of men in urban areas decreased to 6.6 percent in July-September 2022 as compared to 9.3 percent a year ago. It was 7.1 percent in April-June 2022.
