During Diwali in October, flight ticket prices had increased by two to three times the normal level.
Removal of air fare cap, privatization of airports are the important reasons for the rising cost.
Air travel distance, destination, airport tax/charge etc. are also major reasons for expensive tickets.
New Delhi. There was a tremendous increase in air fares during the festive season. Flight ticket prices increased two to three times the normal level during Diwali in October, with tickets to tourist destinations four to five times higher. However, air fares are still high on almost every route. At the same time, customers have to pay more fare for the ticket to travel immediately.
Customers are shocked by the increasing prices of air fares and want to know why this is happening? In the past, many people took the support of social media to raise this issue. In this regard, many industry experts gave reasons for this and gave important suggestions to the customers as to how they can get air tickets at low prices.
How do airlines decide ticket prices?
Industry experts say that the removal of air fare cap by DGCA, privatization of airports and competitive pricing of air tickets are some of the reasons due to which air fares sometimes increase manifold.
Darshan Sharma, Founder, Travmod Travels, told the Financial Express, “The removal of cap on fares by DGCA has had a major impact on ticket prices, as conditions are improving for airlines after the upheaval of the Corona pandemic. Apart from this, the biggest impact has been due to the privatization of airports. Now they are increasing every possible fee for airlines companies to use their airport.
Dr. Arun Lohia, Chief Operating Officer, CAD Ventures Pvt Ltd, the aviation arm of Cadila Pharma, said that airline fares are no longer decided by the commercial team.
According to Dr. Arun Lohia, earlier airline ticket price commercial team in Air India used to decide and then it was used as GSA (General Sales Agent). There are a few major factors that go into deciding ticket prices. These include air travel distance, destination, airport tax/charge etc.
How to get cheap tickets?
- According to Darshan Sharma, travel agents usually have important routes blocked. In such a situation, a fixed travel agent can help. Fares can also be compared between several online travel agencies and using cards/discounts can help in getting the best deal.
- Customers can get better deals on fixed journey time/dates.
- Diwali, Christmas, New Year are blackout days in the travel industry. Flight tickets are very expensive on such days. Therefore, it is better to avoid traveling on such days or book tickets in advance.
- Many airlines companies give big discounts on flight tickets for certain times. In such a situation, these offers can be taken advantage of. Experts say that the best time to book flight tickets for a planned trip is 3-6 months in advance.
