New Delhi. Google’s new gaming policy has now been challenged in court. Indian online gaming platform WinZO has approached the Delhi High Court calling Google’s new gaming policy discriminatory. Vinzo has appealed to the High Court to stop Google from implementing the new policy.
The Winzo app offers paid games in the Fantasy Sports and Rummy categories. The platform offers real-money games across categories like carrom, puzzles and car racing among many others. With the implementation of Google’s new gaming policy, Winzo will not get its benefit. That is why he has challenged it in the court.

According to a report in Business Standard, Google did not allow any real-money games in India for years. But this month Google said such games for fantasy sports and rummy could be included on the Play Store as part of a one-year pilot program. Mobile games are becoming very popular in India. Dream11 and Mobile Premier League (MPL) games are popular for playing fantasy cricket in India. Foreign investors Tiger Global and Sequoia Capital have invested in these.
Google did not respond
In its suit filed in the Delhi High Court, Vinzo said it had approached Google on September 10 to oppose the update policy, saying it was ‘unfair’. But there was no response from Google and it was forced to approach the court.

Winzo claims that it has about 85 million users in India. On an average, users spend an hour on its platform. According to the case filed in the High Court, Winzo received annual revenue of $ 13 million in 2020-21.
Online games are in dispute
Online games have been in controversy in India for quite some time now. A Government of India panel had suggested setting up of a regulatory body to classify online games on the basis of skill or opportunity. Not only this, it was also suggested to block prohibited gaming formats and take a strict stance on gambling websites.
