When someone leaves this world, only his memories are left with the family. Just as the dead body is burnt in Sanatam Dharma, similarly the dead body is buried in many other religions. Then the family members keep flowers in the memory of the one who visits that grave and in good and bad days, knowing the cemetery, meet their deceased loved one. A British woman had been doing the same thing for 43 years after the death of her father, but suddenly she came to know about such a thing related to her father’s grave (England woman put flowers on wrong grave) that the ground slipped under her feet.
According to the report of the Daily Star website, the father of 67-year-old Sylvia Ross died in the year 1979. He was buried at Bishop Auckland Witton Park Cemetery in County Durham, England. Sylvia used to visit her father’s grave for the last 43 years (Flower on father’s grave) continuously to pay tribute and remember him and used to offer flowers there. But suddenly he came to know one day that the grave was not his father’s.
Misnamed stone placed on the grave
According to the report, the grave on which she used to offer flowers was actually of a person named Frederick Brown. Sylvia’s father was buried leaving two graves. This was revealed when Frederick’s family decided to build a memorial at his grave and contacted Durham County Council, which is responsible for the maintenance of the cemetery. Then the municipality put a board on the grave of Sylvia’s father instead of putting a board on Frederick’s grave. At that time Frederick’s family objected that Frederick’s grave was in two plots, but the grave on which the memorial was installed is only one plot. Then the council came to know about the mistake and they moved the stones on the grave here and there and placed them on the right grave.
The woman was offering flowers to the wrong grave for 67 years from the age of 24
Sylvia’s 24-year-old daughter Lynette says that her mother is completely broken after knowing this. She continued to offer flowers to Frederick’s grave every Christmas, birthday, Father’s Day etc. He now feels that his father will be annoyed that no one has come to his grave in all these years to meet him or offer flowers. The council has now apologized to Sylvia, however, her pain cannot be gauged.
