New Delhi. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead India in the Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament starting in Bangladesh from October 1. All India Women’s Selection Committee has appointed Smriti Mandhana as the vice-captain of the team. ACC Women’s T20 Championship 2022 is starting from 1st October. This tournament will be played in Sylhet, Bangladesh till October 15. India will face Sri Lanka in their opening match.
Asian Cricket Council President Jay Shah had announced that India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on 7 October in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup starting in Sylhet, Bangladesh next month. Seven teams will participate in the 15-day tournament starting from October 1. The tournament will be in a round robin format, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-finals.
The teams playing in the tournament are India, Pakistan, hosts Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE, Thailand and Malaysia. Afghanistan has not had a women’s team since the Taliban took power. India’s schedule for the Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament:
India will start their campaign against Sri Lanka on the first day. They will play Malaysia (October 3) and UAE (October 4) consecutively before taking on Pakistan. India will play hosts Bangladesh on October 8 and will play against Thailand on October 10 in a round-robin match. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will play six league matches in 10 days before a possible semi-final on October 11 or 13. The final match will be played on 15 October.

Let us tell you that for the first time the Indian team won the Women’s Asia Cup tournament which started in 2004. India won all its five matches in this edition. After this, India also won the 2005 season played in Pakistan. India won the Asia Cup played in 2006 by defeating Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the final. In 2008, once again for the fourth time in a row, India was victorious in this tournament. From 2012, this tournament started being played in T20 format. The 6th Women’s Asia Cup tournament was played in Thailand from 27 November to 4 December 2016. India defeated Pakistan by 17 runs in the final to become champion for the 6th time in a row. After this, in 2018, Bangladesh won their first Asia Cup title by defeating six-time winners India by 3 wickets in the final.
