Mohali. Despite India not winning the Asia Cup 2022 in the United Arab Emirates, skipper Rohit Sharma is clear that his team will continue to bat aggressively. Preparations for the T20 World Cup will be finalized with the opening T20 against Australia. Rohit said in the press conference on Sunday, ‘We will continue to play like this because we talked clearly in the beginning, and everyone is very comfortable with it. Also, we know about the latter batsmen, what if we are in trouble. We spend a lot of time talking about these things. If we are three out for 50 or 50 for no loss, then we have to bat as we started.
He said, ‘If you look at our batting style in the Asia Cup, we scored around 170 runs in almost every match. I mean, he did well in almost all the matches except that one match against Sri Lanka. You also saw our match against Pakistan. It went till the last over. So we were not really worried about what happened there. Rohit further said that in big events like the World Cup, some luck should also be with the team and it is learned that there will be a review meeting after the series against South Africa is over.
He said, ‘To be honest, we played good cricket. When you’re playing that kind of tournament, you also need a little luck. This approach of ours has given us a lot of success. We trust the players to go out on the field and play like what they have achieved while doing so.
Virat Kohli can open in some matches: Rohit Sharma
On the other hand, India captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed that star batsman Virat Kohli will be the third opener in the team. Rohit indicated that Kohli will open the batting in a few matches as the hosts begin the final phase of preparations for the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia next month. When India played in the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year, Ishan Kishan was the back-up opening option. But with his exit from this year’s T20 World Cup, Kohli is now being seen as the third opener.
