Mumbai. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to conduct the auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) before the 2023 season in mid-December this year. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the date of the IPL auction is likely to be December 16. It also said that the possible schedule for the 2023 IPL season has been discussed among the franchises, who were informed through informal talks with the BCCI and officials in the IPL.
The report further states that, ‘Obviously, this will be a mini-auction, but the venue has not been decided yet. Also, the dates for the league have not been decided. For the player auction, all the teams will have Rs 95 crore in their purse, which is Rs 5 crore more than last year’s auction. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly recently wrote to the state units that IPL 2023 will return to normal, which did not happen in the last three seasons due to the Kovid-19 pandemic.
‘IPL will be played in the old format’
In the year 2020, due to the outbreak of Kovid-19 epidemic, IPL was organized at some places. In the year 2020, it was organized in empty stadiums in three venues of the United Arab Emirates in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. In the year 2021, this T20 tournament was organized in four places Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Chennai. But now the epidemic is under control and therefore this league will be played in the old format of the home ground and the opposing team’s ground.
On the women’s IPL starting next year, Ganguly said, “BCCI is currently working on the women’s IPL. We are looking forward to start the first season early next year. More information on this will come in due course. Apart from the women’s IPL, the BCCI is going to organize the girls’ U-15 one-day tournament from 26 December to 12 January. Its matches will be played in Bangalore, Ranchi, Rajkot, Indore, Raipur and Pune.
