If there’s one vehicle that’s more environmentally damaging, it’s the jet plane. People are flying jets left, right and centre, especially the powerful and famous ones of this world. Jets emit ridiculous amounts of CO2 in a very short period of time. Basically, every trip these celebrities take in their luxury jets is slowly destroying the environment.
To put some numbers into perspective, an average car emits seven metric tons of CO2 in a year, while a private jet can reach numbers over 8000 tons! If we listen carefully to these celebrities, they stop flying every day to buy pizza or have a party. Probably not, but at least you know who to blame. Although their carbon footprint is a drop in the bucket, it is important to realize that compared to factories, the bucket we live in is not bottomless.
1. Travis Scott – 3,030 tons of CO2
The first entry on this list is Kyle Jenner’s partner Travis Scott. This famous musician is very busy traveling and accumulated more than 3,030 tons of CO2 in 2022.
2. Oprah Winfrey – 3,500 tons of CO2
No wonder Oprah Winfrey was spotted here. His frequent jet flights this year, of which there have been nearly 70, have emitted about 3,500 tonnes of CO2. Do you know how many minutes it takes to drive from Van Nuys to Santa Barbara (both in California)? Fifteen minutes!
3. Mark Wahlberg – 3,770 tons of CO2
The one and only Mark Wahlberg has made over a hundred flights on his private jet this year. These trips, ranging from 29-minute to several-hour flights, released 3,770 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
4. Kim Kardashian – 4,270 tons of CO2
If anyone on this list feels like they deserve to fly on a private jet, it’s Kim K. So far, in 2022, Kim has made 57 flights, the emissions of which have reached the level of 4,270 tons of CO2. Even a short 38-minute flight produces about 3 tons of CO2.
5. Steven Spielberg – 4,470 tons of CO2
The legendary film director’s jet set has been very busy this year. Spielberg has made 61 flights that emit over 4,470 tons of CO2. His shortest flight is 18 minutes from Amsterdam to Rotterdam.
6. Blake Shelton – 4,500 tons of CO2
Even if you don’t know who Blake Shelton is, he owns his own jet and he doesn’t mind using it. In 2022, Gwen Stefani’s husband made 111 flights, the shortest of which was a 27-minute flight from Van Nuys to San Diego.
7. A-Rod – 5,345 tons of CO2
Why is a baseball player and ex-fiancé of Jennifer Lopez the 4th highest private jet abuser among celebrities? He accumulated nearly 5,345 tons of CO2 by zooming across the United States.
8. J-Z – 6,980 tons of CO2
The third highest CO2 emitter on this list is Jay-Z, a famous rapper and husband of the very famous Beyonce. Those 136 flights he’s made since January put more than 6,980 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
9. Floyd Mayweather – 7,077 tons of CO2
With over 7,077 tonnes of CO2 emitted in 2022, we have the legendary boxer in second place. To illustrate how much Mayweather has traveled, let’s look at the average number of flights he’s taken. Wow, the data says that’s 25 flights per month, which means there were months where he used the jet more than once a day. It’s crazy, sure, but not as crazy as our final litter.
10. Taylor Swift – 8,300 tons of CO2
It’s official: Taylor Swift is the celebrity who created the most pollution in 2022. Dwarfed the competition with 8,230-ish tons of CO2 produced by his jets during 170+ flights. Now you know!
