Shami played in this format in December 2020 before playing in the T20 World Cup 2021.
Shami, a regular in Tests and ODIs, did not play many T20 Internationals for India.
Mohammed Shami has taken 18 wickets in 17 T20 Internationals at a strike rate of 9.54.
New Delhi. India star player Mohammed Shami is still one of the best fast bowlers with the new ball. He remains an important part of Team India in big series, World Cup and other big tournaments and also plays an important role in victory. Despite this, veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami is now being considered not to be included in India’s T20 team. Reportedly, the selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also informed the senior player about this.
Mohammed Shami has not participated in the shortest format for India since the T20 World Cup 2021. According to a report in InsideSport, the selectors are planning to keep using them in the 50-over format as well as in red-ball cricket, but in T20 cricket they want to rely on the younger players.
Management focusing on youth in T20
According to the website, a member of the BCCI Selection Committee says, “Shami’s age is not decreasing and we need to prepare him afresh for the Test. That’s why his name is not being considered for T20. We have had a conversation with him after the T20 World Cup on his workload management. At present, there are no plans to include him in T20 cricket. In T20, our focus will be on the youth.

Shikhar Dhawan is also only part of the ODI team
Actually, the case of Mohammed Shami is also similar to that of opener Shikhar Dhawan. However, Dhawan has been dropped from both the Test and T20 International teams by the selectors. He remains only a member of the ODI team now. It is being said that behind such decisions, the workload management of the players is also involved. India is playing so many matches continuously, due to which the pressure on the main players of the team is increasing. In such a situation, the selectors have decided to give a chance to the young players by resting the main players in many series.
Let us inform that since the end of T20 World Cup 2021, the team management has focused a lot on the workload of the players. This major step is being taken to ensure that players of all formats are given rest at regular intervals, so that all players are fresh for the big events.
