India does not have a regular captain.
India has tried seven captains so far.
Didn’t get a captain after Virat left the captaincy.
New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday, 30 July announced the squad for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe starting August 18. Once again the Indian management decided to rest key senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. All these five players will not be part of India’s ODI series against West Indies. At the same time, Kohli and Bumrah are also not part of the current T20 series.
Shikhar Dhawan, who led India to a 3-0 series win against the West Indies, is leading a 15-man squad on the tour of Zimbabwe. Fans are already questioning BCCI’s decision to rest senior players after just one series and this is not the first time this year. The Indian management has also changed the responsibility of captaincy among the seven players from the beginning of this year. Regular captain Rohit Sharma was also rested for India’s home T20 series against South Africa in June and later the tour of Ireland.

‘India repeating the mistake of the 1990s’
The Indian management handed over their first caps as captains to Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya last month. Earlier this month, pacer Jasprit Bumrah was handed the captaincy in the fifth rescheduled Test against England. However, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif does not find this rotation helpful and believes that India is making the same mistake that Pakistan did in the 1990s. Rashid Latif said on his YouTube channel, “Everyone talks about backup, but they have now made seven backup captains in the last one year! This is being seen for the first time in the history of India. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah… They are repeating the same mistake that Pakistan did in the 1990s. ,
‘No captain is playing continuously’
Star opening batsman KL Rahul is Rohit’s deputy in all three formats but hasn’t played a game since the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2022 at the end of May. He has been battling with injuries for the past few months and recently missed the tour of West Indies due to the Covid-19 virus. It is clear that India is looking for future captaincy options. Both Rahul and Rohit have lost a lot of matches in the recent past. But Latif said that no current captaincy option is playing regular cricket and India needs a leader who is like former captain Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Kohli.
‘India needs captain like Ganguly-Dhoni’
Rashid Latif said, “He has neither got any solid opener nor does he have a stable middle order. All they need is a new captain. No captain is playing for him continuously. KL Rahul is now unfit, Rohit was unfit earlier, Virat is mentally unwell. So they have to think about it. They are changing so many captains… they need leaders like Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli.”
