New Delhi. India has entered the final of the women’s cricket competition in the Commonwealth Games 2022. India defeated England (India women vs England women) by 4 runs in the semi-finals. Batting first, Team India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, scored 164 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In reply, the host England team could score only 160 runs for 6 wickets. Women’s cricket has been included in the Commonwealth Games for the first time. In such a situation, Team India is now just one victory away from the gold medal.
Smriti Mandhana hit the fastest half-century
Apart from Smriti Mandhana’s 61 runs off 32 balls with three sixes and eight fours, Jemimah Rodrigues’s useful innings of 44 not out helped India put up a score of 164 for 5 wickets. Mandhana’s aggressive innings in the powerplay laid the foundation for this score while Rodrigues (seven fours) helped to increase it by an unbeaten 31-ball knock. During this, Mandhana also scored the fastest fifty in T20 Internationals in women’s cricket, for which she played only 23 balls.
England needed 33 runs off 24 balls to win
Chasing a target of 165 runs, the England team was in a good position after scoring 132 runs for three wickets. The hosts needed just 33 runs in 24 balls but off-spinner Rana (2 for 28 in 4 overs) bowled very well. He conceded only three runs in the 18th over and nine runs in the last over. England’s team could manage only 160 runs for six wickets in 20 overs despite Sophie Ecclestone’s six in the last ball. In this way, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team avenged the defeat in the final of the 2017 ODI World Cup at Lord’s.

Deepti and Jemima added 53 runs for the fourth wicket
Deepti Sharma contributed 22 runs in 20 balls. However, India had scored 64 runs in six overs of the powerplay, which seems to be 15 runs short of their score. The Indian innings added 100 runs in the subsequent 14 overs of the powerplay as the team lost momentum after losing three consecutive wickets in the middle overs. Rodrigues and Deepti put on an important 53-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Mandhana and Shefali shared a 76-run partnership for the first wicket.
Mandhana’s drive shots in women’s cricket are worth watching. When Shefali Verma (17 runs in 15 balls) is playing with him without aggression, I can’t believe my eyes. Both of them shared a partnership of 76 runs in 7.5 overs. Mandhana hit a cover drive off Katherine Brunt while Nate Sciver, Issie Wong and spinner Sarah Glenn hit sixes. In this way, he completed half-century in just 23 balls. The run-rate slowed down as Skiver dismissed Mandhana, in which captain Harmanpreet Kaur played several dot balls despite a four and a six, making her the same number of runs in 20 balls.
