A 5-match T20 series is being played between India and West Indies.
Two matches of the series have been played and both the teams are tied at 1-1.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 16 runs in the first match and 11 runs in the second.
New Delhi. World Cup winner Kris Srikkanth has reacted to the recent experiments with the Indian team management’s batting line-up involving Suryakumar Yadav. India have tried several opening combinations in T20 Internationals over the past few months, including Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Deepak Hooda and now Suryakumar. Suryakumar Yadav recently scored a century while batting at number four. Now he has played as an opener in the first two matches of the ongoing T20 series against West Indies.
The former cricketer said on Fancode, “Suryakumar Yadav is a great player at number 4. He should bat at number 4 in the T20 World Cup.” Srikanth claimed that India was spoiling Surya’s career by changing his batting position. He said, “Then why do you want an opening from him. If you want someone to open then leave Shreyas Iyer and choose Ishan Kishan instead. What I am trying to say is simple… don’t spoil a cricketer like Suryakumar Yadav.”
‘He will lose his confidence after 1-2 failures’
He said, “Please don’t do this. I will tell you what will happen, after a couple of failures he will lose his confidence. Cricket is a game of confidence.” Last week, former India batsman Mohammad Kaif also lodged his objection to Suryakumar Yadav playing as an opener.
Kaif also objected to the opening of Suryakumar
He had said, “Suryakumar’s role is to control the innings in the middle and add the finishing touches. In fact, on the return of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, his role will remain as the number 4 batsman. But Rishabh Pant can be tried. Clearly, I didn’t understand what happened. Ishaan Kishan is also waiting. You should have used Rishabh Pant today, if you were planning to use him as an opener for a few matches. Give them at least five chances. Also, captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid support players for at least 5-6 games.”
Let us tell you that in ideal circumstances, KL Rahul would have opened the innings with Rohit Sharma. However, his long absence has pushed India into experiment mode.
