New Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday. Raghav Chadha has placed a demand in front of the Finance Minister to remove GST from the inns near the Golden Temple. After the decision of the GST Council, 12 percent GST has been levied on the ‘Sarai’ for the pilgrims visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
You Member of parliament handed over a demand letter to the Finance Minister. It has been said in the demand letter that devotees from all over the country come to visit the holy Golden Temple. Every day more than one lakh people from all over the world visit Shri Darbar Sahib. Inns have been built here for their stay, which are built for the convenience of the devotees and not to earn profit. Therefore, the 12 percent GST on these inns should be withdrawn immediately.

It has been said in the demand letter that this tax is missing the Mughal period of Aurangzeb. The GST on Sarai reminds us of the Jizya tax imposed during the Aurangzeb regime. Along with this, Raghav Chadha has also demanded a special economic package for Punjab.

33-year-old Raghav is the youngest Rajya Sabha MP. While demanding a special economic package for Punjab, he said that we will continue to raise issues related to Punjab’s water, coal supply, centralization of Panjab University, agriculture.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has recently appointed Raghav Chadha as the chairman of the advisory committee of the Punjab government. Chadha will oversee the concept and implementation of pro-people policies of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab and advise the government on financial matters.
