If you have purchased the ticket from the reservation counter, then it can be canceled up to 72 hours after the scheduled departure of the train at any computerized reservation counter. If the passenger cancels the ticket on his own, IRCTC deducts some cancellation charges from the refund. The cancellation charges are different for each reservation category.
