Especially in states like Bihar, UP, Madhya Pradesh and MP, new branches of banks have started opening in urban areas as well as in rural areas. If we talk about Bihar, there has been a tremendous change in the banking sector in Bihar in the last three years. According to the latest RBI data, 381 new branches of various banks have been opened in Bihar in the last three years. These include both private and public sector banks. On Tuesday itself, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi has given this information through his social account.

On this, the Finance Ministry has replied that 160 private and public sector banks have opened in Bihar during the financial year 2019-20, 135 during the financial year 2020-21 and 86 during the financial year 2021-22. Combining all the three financial years, 381 new branch banks are open in Bihar.
Branches of private banks are also opening in Bihar
In these three years, 36 branches of State Bank of India (SBI) and its associate banks have been opened in urban and rural areas of different districts of Bihar. Along with this, many public sector banks including Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India and Punjab National Bank have opened their branches.

If we talk about private banks, then Bandhan Bank has opened the maximum number of branches in Bihar in the last three years. Bandhan Bank has opened 82 banks in the year 2019-20, 75 in the year 2020-21 and 9 banks i.e. a total of 166 banks during the financial year 2021-22. Many more private sectors including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Yes Bank have also opened their respective branches.

Of these, the number of private sector banks was 92. State Bank of India had the highest number of 115 branches opened. In terms of branches of commercial banks, Bihar is on the 8th position in the country. In 2021, 4.9 percent of the branches of banks were in Bihar. Banks have branches in Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, UP and Bengal more than Bihar.
