Virat Kohli is not named in the team selected for Zimbabwe tour
When will Kohli return to Team India? There is a big update on this
New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced Team India for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe to be held from August 18 to 22. Shikhar Dhawan, who led the team in the ODI series against West Indies, has been made the captain for the Zimbabwe tour. Rohit Sharma has been given rest from this series. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli will not be seen in this series. KL Rahul himself has given the reason for the delay in his return on Twitter. But, the situation is not clear regarding the absence of Virat Kohli.
There were constant reports that Virat Kohli Can return to Team India from Zimbabwe tour. But, when the team was announced, Virat’s name was not there. It was also not told by the BCCI whether he has been rested or there is some other reason. Ever since IPL 2022, Virat has returned to international cricket. His bat is silent. He batted in 6 innings in England in all three formats and 20 runs was his best score. He was then rested for the West Indies tour.
Virat will return from Asia Cup
According to news agency PTI, Kohli can return to the team from the Asia Cup to be held in late August. A source told PTI, ‘Virat had spoken to the selectors that he would be available from the Asia Cup. The senior players of the team will hardly get rest from the Asia Cup till the T20 World Cup. So after the Windies tour there is a window of only two weeks in which the senior players can rest. This is the reason why Virat decided to withdraw from the Zimbabwe tour. So that he can refresh himself by taking a break before the busy cricket schedule of the next 3-4 months.
The Zimbabwe tour will see the return of some players, who were running out of the team due to injury for a long time. It has off-spinners Washington Sundar and Deepak Chahar. Washington is currently playing county cricket for Lancashire.
At the same time, Deepak Chahar has returned to the Indian team after completing the rehabilitation of hamstring and back injury. Chahar has been away from the Indian team for 6 months. He could not even play IPL 2022 due to injury. All three ODIs of the series between India and Zimbabwe will be held at Harare Sports Club. The Asia Cup will start four days after the Zimbabwe tour (27 August).
