If romcoms have taught us anything about dating women, it’s that they only like flowers. You give them a bouquet of roses or lilies, and in five seconds, she’s all yours. Yes, in the real world, things usually don’t work that way. I say “usually” because there’s always that desperate girl who screws up the stats.
Anyway, every girl has wondered at least once in her life why she didn’t get flowers on the first date, and finally we spilled the beans.
Here are some reasons why a man might not want to give flowers to his woman.
1. Flowers are a waste of money.
There may be a larger and more logical reason for all of this. Even the simplest bouquet can cost upwards of a hundred dollars, so why waste something that will be thrown away in a day or two instead of buying some fancy snacks at a restaurant or stretching your dating budget?
2. Derogatory criticism.
This is a very rare cause, but it does happen. For example, a guy brought red roses on one of her previous dates, and the girl was upset because they weren’t tulips. Or he shouldn’t have brought anything to begin with, she said. What a fool you are!
3. Direct and honest request.
If your date has already told you that he doesn’t want to see any flowers on your hands, it’s really a 50/50 trap. She may or may not genuinely want you to buy her some flowers. That’s something you’ll have to decide on your own, but just to be sure, don’t bring anything. Worst case scenario – you respect her wishes and she shouldn’t complain.
4. Flowers are worthless.
In a couple of days they will be gone, leaving only petals and sad memories of that date where you were forced to carry those huge flowers all night. You can give her a big teddy bear. It was a joke. Don’t do that on the first date!
5. Save your money.
Some call it greed; I call that smart. Yes, technically, it’s about money again, but it’s different. On your first date, you never know what will happen on your second date, or if it will even happen. So yes, don’t go all out until you’re loaded. But then why flowers?
6. No serious motives.
Many women see gifts like flowers as a sign of strong feelings and potential plans for the future. So leave those things for next week, okay? Try to sort out your feelings and only then show signs of affection. If you haven’t realized it, it could save you some money!
7. It is an ancient tradition.
Do you want to live in the past? It’s okay if you do. It’s your choice. But you’re still reading this article, probably trying to find a good reason not to bring your date any flowers, so I’ll give you a good one: In the Middle Ages, when a chosen man gave flowers to a woman, he expected her to receive them. Something again. That’s right, “a flower for a flower” they called it. If your girl is upset about not getting roses, hit her with this alone. It always works because no self-respecting woman would be okay with dating a man with impure motives.
